WSOP Europe to start this week

The World Series of Poker Europe will start this week on Thursday 14th September. Since the WSOP first landed in Europe in 2007 the popularity of the Series has grown every year and so has the number of poker tournaments. Back in 2007 the schedule included only three poker events, the next two years had four events each and this year will include five events.

The winner of each event will take home a WSOP bracelet and the total prize pool of the tournament has reached the £15,166,890. Along with the prize, the number of poker players has increased over the years, an average 207.76 players in 2007 to an average 313.5 players in 2009, and the event is expected to attract even more players this year.

As to events, there is only one non-hold’em event on the schedule this year: the £5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha. Also, the competition will include a £2,500 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed event and a £10,000 No-Limit Hold’em High Roller Heads-Up event, with the first one expected to draw a great number of poker players and the second one meant for elite players.

Chris Ferguson and John Juanda are the two only players who have cashed all three years of the WSOP Europe. Although Ferguson has had good performances and made it to the final table twice, he has not been able to win the event. Juanda, on the other hand, won the WSOP Europe Main Event in 2008 and took home the top prize of £868,800. These two great poker players are expected to come back this year to show their good poker game at the European poker tables.
