UB announced the news on its blog and the poker players confirmed it via Twitter. “I've sincerely enjoyed wearing the UB patch, but it's time for me to move on,” Duke commented. “So why am I leaving UB? In a nutshell, professional and personal growth. I'm going to explore and pursue other business opportunities on a full-time basis.”
On the other hand, Phil Hellmuth posted on Twitter: “Making a BIG move … leaving UB. Truly lots of great memories, but it's time to move on … Mutual decision … Looking forward to BRIGHT future!” He also said during an interview that it was just a business decision and had nothing to do with UB and their management.
The future of the two poker stars is still uncertain when it comes to endorsements but Hellmuth will probably endorse his own site or poker site WSOP.com, where he leads the bracelet ranking. He is not likely to join other sites where he would just be one of the team, given his big personality.
Annie Duke had a good year with a victory in the National Heads-Up Poker Championships and exposure through “Celebrity Apprentice”, which means she is in good position to negotiate. She could follow her brother’s steps and become a member of the Full Tilt team.
